Hypnotherapy is a face-to-face therapy to help you bring about effective change and enhance your wellbeing by inducing a deeply relaxed state and accessing the subconscious mind.

 

There is no legal definition of hypnosis.  Webster's dictionary describes it incorrectly as 'an artificially induced sleep', but it is actually a natural state of mind and induced normally in everyday living much more often than it is artificially.  Every time we become engrossed in a novel or a motion picture, we are in a natural hypnotic trance.

Hypnotherapy FAQs

How does hypnotherapy work?

Hypnotherapy gives you an opportunity to relax both the body and mind completely by following a guided relaxation to soothe and comfort the body and then visualisation to distract the conscious mind before making suggestions for the subconscious to use as a new 'blue print' to alter behaviour.  The deep relaxation activates the parasympathetic nervous system (the 'rest and digest' system) which releases feel good hormones from the reward centre of your brain.

Will I lose control?

The short answer is No!

Under hypnosis, you are completely in control at all times.  I cannot make you do anything you don't want to do (different to TV/stage hypnosis).

Some people report being fully aware of their surroundings, but so relaxed that they don't care about them anymore.  For others it can be a completely euphoric experience where they are completely unaware of my voice or the room and enjoy feeling deeply comfortable and relaxed.

Can I get stuck in a hypnotic trance?

Nope!

During the session I guide you into hypnosis, offer a failsafe so that you would wake if there was an emergency or I couldn't finish the session and I always count you back out of hypnosis and ensure that you are happy, safe and grounded before leaving.

How will I know if I'm doing it properly?

This is the best part!  There is no right or wrong way to do it.  Everyone has the ability to enter a hypnotic trance - ever got lost in a book, daydreamed or driven from A to B without paying attention to the journey?  That's all a form of hypnotic trance!

Whatever you experience during hypnosis will be right for you.  All you need to be able to do is listen to my voice and follow the gentle guidance.
